Held in Stockport, Greater Manchester. This conference This conference will be of interest to anyone working with children with little or no sight and provides an important opportunity to review established policies and practices in the light of new research, changing pupil needs and developments in technology. Parent Child 2008, the Family and Parenting Institute's fifth biennial conference, will showcase a range of research, policy and practice issues relevant to improving family relationships and wellbeing and will be a ‘must attend’ event for anyone working in this sector.This major conference will feature world-renowned plenary presenters, will debate the key current issues for family policy and practice and will bring together practitioners, academics, researchers, policy makers and the media. 13 and 14 November
United Kingdom Literacy Association conference exploring approaches to the use of moving image media in the literacy curriculum. The conference offers three strands: leading learning in moving image media education at local authority level; developing classroom practice; and screen education, aimed at educators working in independent cinemas and pracitioners interested in working with them. This conference provides an opportunity for everyone concerned about the disparity of educational achievement between boys and girls to enhance their understanding of gender issues and engage more effectively with boys. This conference is organised by Chance YOur Arm and will take place at Hinsley Hall, 62 Headingley Lane, Leeds, LS6 2BX on Fri 5 Dec from 09.15 - 16.00.
The Keynote Speech will be jointly presented by Professor Becky Francis (University of Roehampton) and Professor Christine Skelton (University of Birmingham) who have worked closely together on many research projects relating to gender issues. Both professors have written numerous books and papers and have most recently provided consultancy to the DCSF on gender and achievement. Their presentation will give an overview of current thinking and a summary of their own research.
