'I think
Reading Is Fundamental, UK does a fantastic job. It's
wonderful that so many children can now have their own
books and discover for themselves that reading is fun.'
Jacqueline Wilson,
Children's Laureate 2005-2007. |

 We
are very grateful to the Countess
of Wessex for her support and attendance at
our special event launching a series of special RIF
events in celebration of the Children's Party at the
Palace for the Queen's 80th birthday. The event took
place at St Ethelbert's RC Primary School in Slough
on Wednesday 10 May and was a great success, with
the Countess spending a great deal of time talking
to children in Years 3, 4 and 5 as well as presenting
them with their books.

'From the moment I first heard about Reading Is Fundamental I became an enthusiast. The concept is brilliant but would be worthless without the dedicated National Literacy Trust team whose hard work and organisation makes the whole thing work. Here's to the next ten years, when I shall continue to champion you whenever I can.'
Bernard Ashley, author and RIF
Ambassador.
'I so much value the superb work
undertaken by Reading Is Fundamental in motivating children
to pick up a book. I feel as passionate as you and the National
Literacy Trust about encouraging children to read and find
pleasure in books.'
Gervase Phinn, author.
'Reading is fundamental.
I know how much I loved the very few books on my own childhood
shelves and how they lured me to the library and enriched
my life. So all good wishes to RIF UK on their 10th anniversary
celebration.'

Laureate 2001-2003.

'I knew almost nothing about
RIF before I wrote The Riddle of the Poisoned Monk. It is
such a worthwhile organisation. The children obviously enjoy
the events and the opportunity to choose a book - mine or
otherwise! Many of them seemed thrilled to be going away
clutching a book. It is so nice for me to meet the children
and chat to them - they are always so eager to take part.'
Sarah Matthias, author.
