Dominic Matteo helps out at the South Leeds Learning Partnership
centre
|
During the 2002/2003 season Leeds United raised their own funds
to run a RIF project with
Reading The Game. They have since been successful in raising more funds to continue a RIF project at the club and have so far given out over 400 books to 150 children.
The project was based in a family learning centre in South Leeds,
with parents coming on Saturday mornings, and one evening during
the week. The children who attend all received three free books
through their RIF project. Leeds United has also worked very closely
in the 2001/2002 season with Leeds Libraries to produce some excellent
collectable cards featuring players reading in various parts of
the city. See the images of the players here.
For 2003 the club again teamed up with Leeds Libraries
to form a project called 442 - 4Leeds 4Reading 2gether.
The 442 project consists of family reading groups held
at libraries within the city. Reading Champion Lucas
Radebe launched this scheme at Wetherby Young Offenders
Institute. Read more about 442 here.
Six of the 442 family reading groups formed the members
for the year's RIF projects, and two of them tied the
project in with their Premier
League Reading Stars programme.
