The Brentford Big Read

Here are two winning stroies from the Brentford Big Read 2006. Back to Brentford's main page.

The Picasso Code

The guard ran from his pursuer who had the cheque for $500,000. He then fell to the ground in front of Picasso's 'Jeune Fille Assise', tugged the picture to the ground as the pursuer spoke, "Why run in a place as big as this?" The guard scrambled for his gun. As he looked up he caught a glimpse of the hood, which concealed the pursuer's face. "What do you want from me?" he asked.

The pursuer answered, "It is not from you I want something but someone else in this hotel." He clicked his weapon. "Do not worry this gun has no bullets just some sedative to help you catch some sleep," said the pursuer and the last thing the guard heard was the sound of a gun shot and a scream. And when he awoke the painting, cheque and the professor were gone.

Drake's phone began to ring; it sounded unfamiliar until he realised his whereabouts. He was in his house in America in his own bed. Drake realised that he was late for school by five minutes. He then heard his mother call for him: " Drake, get your sorry arse up from your pig sty of a bedroom, you'll be late for school".

"Yeah! Mum I'm coming, just wait a second" Drake yelled. Let me find my shoes and I'll be off!" Drake managed to drag himself from his bed." Whoa! That was some dream" He ran out of the door passing the hotel from his dream. He went in to have a glimpse of the place, just to make sure, he thought. As he approached he saw a suitcase hanging from the top floor window. He thought he should tell the police, but would they accuse him?

He ran out and instead of going to school he went home and told his mum. She said: "Why are you here? Come along now school is not that bad!" Mum, I had a dream of a robbery around the corner and that I'd done it. Do I sleep walk?! I didn't want to tell you but I think I did it" " What's going on darling!" said Drake's mum.

To be continued.

The Ring of Teleportation & Time

On one Christmas winter day everyone was opening presents and having nice Christmas food, except one boy called Tony. He was a tall 15 year old young man, who was miserable because he overheard his mother and father's row. Eventually the row ended with Tony's mother Barbara wanting a divorce. Tony couldn't take it anymore and packed his bags and went to his local orphanage and slept there!

He woke the next morning and found a fur bag next to him. He was going to throw it out of the window when he saw a glow inside it. He found a small red box glowing inside the bag. Tony opened the box and found a ring with a tiny watch with time all over the world. Tony was astonished by the anonymous present. He put the ring on his middle finger. Then wished he was at his nana's house just in time to have scones and watch Countdown. The ring glowed and Tony's eyes glowed white like storm on X men.

Suddenly Tony's eyes stopped glowing and went back to green, He looked around and was astonished to see he was in his grandma's bedroom. He had some big ideas for this ring. He looked down at the ring and thought of his parents' row!!! The ring brought him back to his house and he saw his parents saying sorry to each other and kissing!!!

Next, he decided to go back to the Time of the Dinosaurs.

He thought that he could go back to the Cretaceous Period, the time when dinosaurs were about to become extinct! He thought carefully and found that he was in a vast forest. He walked forwards and suddenly heard a roar! He looked around and saw a giant black Tyrannosaurus running after him! He ran as fast as he could towards a big mound of dirt. He saw big white lumps protruding from the mound; they were eggs! He stopped and saw his mother coming closer to him. She started shaking him and then he realised that it was a dream.

After his mum left the room, he laughed at what he had seen in his dream. Suddenly, his trouser pocket started vibrating. Then he looked in it and saw the ring. Blood came from his hand, he thought it was his ring so he dropped it, but his hand was still bleeding. His hand dropped off, a bone came out of his wrist. Then a white light came out of his body and he dropped to the ground as both his legs fell off. The ring went back into the box and then it disappeared.
