Big Read 2006

Forty children, 11 books, seven presentations….the third annual Hounslow Big Read took place in the Hive (formerly Stripes) last Saturday. The children, who came from seven Hounslow Secondary Schools, used hi-tech new media, innovative acting and good old-fashioned haranguing to put across which books they liked best.

There was a ground-tour (as ever this was voted the most popular part of the day!), a writing competition (read two prize-winning stories), super-sized Pictionary and lots of energizing games.

This year's winners were Hounslow Manor who presented a moving excerpt from the novel 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' by John Boyne. Each member of the Hounslow Manor team will receive a £10 book voucher to ensure they keep up the good reading!

Voted the best read for 2006 was Hellbent by Anthony McGowan.

Well done to the following schools:
Hounslow Manor
Brentford School for Girls
Lampton School
Gunnersbury School for Boys
Feltham Community
Chiswick Community
Isleworth & Syon

A special thanks to Tony Dallas and Hounslow Libraries' staff for working alongside GPLZ, contributing to a thoroughly successful day.

Enjoy the game!
