This report outlines our achievements during 2007/2008.
  • Over 24,000 children in disadvantaged areas across the country chose over 55,000 free books to keep
  • 1,700 schools joined Reading Connects to access our support on developing a whole-school reading community
  • 60 prisons took part in our Reading Champions project to encourage peer-led reading promotion
  • Sport helped us to engage over 12,000 children and nearly 1,000 adults
  • We carried out the first policy scoping exercise on key UK literacy issues
  • We launched the 2008 National Year of Reading at 10 Downing Street
